Fire pumps are usually fitted where the local water supply lacks the pressure to adequately provide the flow required to operate a sprinkler system. Pumps are made in a wide range of size and power, to cover all their various applications. In large scale applications, the pump is often a separate water flow for emergency purposes and in many cases the primary electric pump is backed up by a self contained diesel pump in case of power loss.
